Self-Report Inventory
A test where you answer questions about your own thoughts, feelings, or behavior, the format used by the Big Five, RIASEC, and most personality tests.
A self-report inventory asks you to rate statements about yourself ("I enjoy trying new things") rather than having an external observer or a task-based test measure you directly. It's the standard format for personality and interest measurement because it's fast, scalable, and doesn't require a trained administrator.
The tradeoff is that results depend on honest, self-aware answers, which is why every test on this site tells you plainly there's no wrong answer and no benefit to guessing what a "better" response might be.
