Free Big Five Personality Test
The Big Five model is the personality framework psychologists trust most. It scores you on five core traits, not a single type.
This test uses the IPIP-NEO-120, a public-domain instrument built for open research, not a marketing quiz.
Unlike a typology that sorts you into one of a fixed number of boxes, this Big Five personality test gives you five independent scores, so your result reflects exactly where you land instead of the nearest predefined category.
No sign-up. No email. Results in your browser.
What This Big Five Test Measures
You'll get a score on five traits: Openness, Conscientiousness, Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. Together they explain most of what makes your personality distinct.
Each trait is scored independently, so you can be high on one and low on another with no contradiction, this Big Five personality quiz never forces you into a single overall label.
- Openness: how curious you are about new ideas, art, and experience.
- Conscientiousness: how organized, disciplined, and goal-directed you are.
- Extraversion: how much energy you draw from social interaction versus solitude.
- Agreeableness: how much you prioritize cooperation and others' needs.
- Neuroticism: how easily you experience stress and negative emotion.

What Your Big Five Test Results Include
A radar chart of your five scores, a plain-language description for each trait, and a shareable link, no account needed to save or revisit it.
Each trait is labeled low, average, or high relative to the typical range, so you can see at a glance where you stand instead of just a raw number.
The Science Behind the Big Five Test
This test is the IPIP-NEO-120 (Johnson, 2014), built from the public-domain International Personality Item Pool (Goldberg, 1999). See the full methodology and citations on our Methodology page. Read the full methodology
The IPIP-NEO-120 breaks the five broad domains into 30 more specific facets, six per domain, with four of the 120 items measuring each facet, so your five headline scores are backed by more granular data underneath.
Because the item pool is public domain, any researcher can review, translate, or re-validate it, a level of transparency most commercial personality quizzes don't offer.
Learn About Each Trait
Curious what each score actually means? Each of the five traits has its own page covering what high and low scores look like, backed by the same IPIP research.
FAQ
Is this Big Five test really free?
Yes. Every question and your full results are free, with no sign-up or email required.
Is this the official IPIP-NEO test?
Yes. It uses the IPIP-NEO-120 item set (Johnson, 2014), a public-domain instrument, not a paraphrased copy.
How long does this personality test take?
Most people finish in about 15 minutes. A shorter Mini-IPIP version is available if you're short on time.
What's the difference between Big Five, Five Factor Model, and OCEAN?
They're the same model under three different names. "Five Factor Model" is the academic term, "OCEAN" is a memory acronym for the five traits, and "Big Five" is the popular shorthand.
How accurate is a free online Big Five test?
Accuracy depends on the instrument, not the price. Because this test uses the same public-domain IPIP-NEO-120 items used in published research, it isn't a simplified version of a real test, it is the real test.
What does a high or low score on a trait actually mean?
Neither is good or bad on its own. High Conscientiousness helps you finish projects but can tip into rigidity; low Neuroticism means emotional stability but can look like low urgency to others.
Do I need to finish the test in one sitting?
No, but your progress isn't saved between visits unless you keep the tab open, since nothing is stored on a server. If you need a break, the short Mini-IPIP version is a faster alternative.
Do you sell or share my answers?
No. Your answers are scored entirely in your browser and are never transmitted to a server, so there is nothing about your responses for us to sell or share.
