Personality Trait vs. Personality Type
A trait is a spectrum you score somewhere on (like the Big Five); a type sorts you into one fixed category (like MBTI-style typology or the Enneagram).
Trait models score you on independent spectrums, you can be high on one and low on another, with no fixed number of categories. The Big Five is the clearest example.
Type models sort you into one of a fixed set of categories, like a 4-letter MBTI-style code or an Enneagram number. Types are easier to remember and discuss, but they force a hard line somewhere on what's often really a spectrum, which is why researchers generally treat trait models as more precise.
