Free Self-Esteem (Self-Worth) Test

This test scores how you see your own worth and abilities right now, not how you should feel or how you compare to anyone else.

Answer each statement on a 5-point scale, from strongly disagree to strongly agree. There's no right answer, just react honestly.

This is a snapshot of your self-view today, not a fixed trait or a clinical measurement, your answers can shift with mood, context, and time.

No sign-up. No email. Results in your browser.

What This Self-Esteem Test Measures

You'll get one overall score reflecting how comfortable you are with yourself, your confidence in your own decisions and abilities, and how you handle setbacks.

This measures the same construct made famous by the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, using IPIP's own public-domain item set, not the original Rosenberg wording.

How It Works (10 questions, 5 minutes)

Answer 10 short statements about yourself on a 5-point scale. One question per screen, with a progress bar so you always know how far you are.

Half the statements are reverse-worded, so straight-line answering doesn't produce a misleading score.

What Your Results Include

A 10-50 score, which of three bands you land in (lower, moderate, or higher self-reported self-esteem), a plain-language, constructive explanation of what that means, and a shareable link, no account needed to save or revisit it.

Your result also links back to the other tests on this site if you want a fuller picture alongside your Big Five or Enneagram profile.

The Science Behind This Test

These 10 items come from the International Personality Item Pool (IPIP), a public-domain item bank, built to measure the same construct as the well-known Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. Read more on our Methodology page. Read the full methodology

We use IPIP's own item wording rather than Rosenberg's original 1965 items, since IPIP's public-domain license is explicit and unambiguous for any use, including a commercial site like this one.

Self-report scales like this one capture how you see yourself right now, not a lasting diagnosis. Treat your result as a starting point for reflection, not a clinical assessment.

FAQ

Is this self-esteem test really free?

Yes. Every question and your full results are free, with no sign-up or email required.

Is this the same as the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale?

It measures the same construct, but uses the International Personality Item Pool's own public-domain items rather than reproducing Rosenberg's original 1965 wording.

Is a low score on this test something to worry about?

No. Self-esteem shifts with mood, circumstances, and life events, a lower score today is a snapshot, not a permanent label or a diagnosis.

Can this test diagnose low self-esteem as a clinical issue?

No. This is a self-reflection tool, not a clinical instrument. If self-esteem is affecting your daily life significantly, a licensed professional is the right resource, not an online quiz.

How long does this test take?

Most people finish in about 5 minutes.

Can my score change if I retake the test?

Yes, your answers can shift with mood, context, and recent events, especially for scores close to a band boundary.

What can I do if I want to improve my score?

Small, repeatable evidence tends to help more than trying to feel confident all at once, noticing what you did well, or taking on one small decision at a time.

Do you sell or share my answers?

No. Your answers are scored entirely in your browser and are never sent to a server, so there is nothing about your responses for us to sell or share.
